A simple gesture aimed at helping single parents and the LGBTQ community earned Pure Pizza, a Charlotte, North Carolina, pizzeria, invaluable free publicity. Owner Juli Ghazi wanted to make all of her customers feel comfortable, so she has set up a gender-neutral bathroom in her shop. (She also still provides a women's restroom.) In explaining the reason for the special facility, she placed a note on the bathroom's wall. "We have a Unisex bathroom because sometimes gender specific toilets put others into uncomfortable situations," the note read. "And since we have a lot of our friends coming to see us, we wanted to provide a place for our friends who are:
Single Dads with daughters
Single Moms with sons
Parents with disabled children
Those in the LGBTQ community
Adults with aging parents who may be mentally physically disabled
Thank you for helping us provide a safe environment for everyone."
When an appreciative customer posted a photo of the note on Facebook, the gesture of kindness went viral, earning coverage from USA Today, Fox News, ABC News, Today.com and the Huffington Post, to name a few outlets.
