“The Newport resident’s original specialty pizza recipe, which he named “Semper Fi Salvo” in honor of Marines and military personnel based at Cherry Point air station, was chosen as one of 10 semifinalist entries in Papa John’s Papa’s Specialty Pizza Challenge. In the contest, the competitors who submitted the top three pie recipes will have their pizza combinations added to the Papa John’s menu between Aug. 2 and Aug. 29 and a chance at a lifetime supply of pizza, among other prizes. Nelms, who is also a member of the Carteret County Board of Commissioners, said he just happened to be on the computer checking his e-mail and looking at the social networking site Facebook when he noticed an advertisement for the contest.”
