(Erlanger, KY 11/09/07) – Xgard IR from Crowcon is a new, low cost infrared (IR) carbon dioxide (CO2) and flammable gas sensor designed for use in fixed point detection systems in the food and beverage industries.

The detector is ideal for use in industries where CO2 is used as part of the production process, or where either natural gas (methane) or LPG

(butane/propane) is used for heating and/or cooking. These include food and beverage manufacturing, brewing, distilling and wine making, pharmaceutical and chemical processing, and also the catering and hospitality industries.

This new IR sensor can be specified with two types of enclosure:

polyester-coated aluminium or 316 stainless steel for maximum corrosion resistance in extreme environments. The sensor, which has a life expectancy of over 5 years, is a simple plug-in module that makes replacement quick and easy. ATEX* approved for use in hazardous areas, the Xgard IR is Exd flameproof rated.

The standard junction box is designed for both wall and ceiling mounting, and four cable gland options ensure compatibility on any site.

The detector takes a range of accessories for harsh or wet conditions and for remote sampling.
