National Pizza Month may be coming to an end, but the celebration of all things pizza is just getting started in Lexington, Kentucky.
The city will celebrate Lexington Pizza Week from Nov. 5-11, with restaurants around town offering $6 specials on small pizzas and slices, with meat and vegetarian options.
Billed as “Lexington’s biggest pizza party,” the week-long event will highlight pies that aren’t typically on the participating restaurants’ menus. The Big City Pizza Company, for example, will offer the Tipsy Chicken with Bourbon (locally made beer cheese base, grilled chicken, mozzarella, bacon crumbles and a bourbon glaze) and the 3-Cheese Mac & Cheese.
Crust will bake up the Dante, made with arrabiata, spicy pork sausage, fresh mozzarella, toasted garlic and balsamico, and the Dad Joke, a vegetarian pie featuring Fontina truffle cream, garlic, mozzarella, provolone and pecorino.
Mellow Mushroom joins in the fun with a pie called The Marley, boasting a red-sauce base, mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, bacon and a honey drizzle, and the White Rabbit, which has a garlic-and-olive-oil base, sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms, artichoke hearts and feta cheese.
Various locations of Blaze Pizza will serve up different signature pies. The store on South Limestone offers the Blazin’ Porker (mozzarella, pepperoni, sausage, bacon, banana peppers and red onions) and the Spin Me ‘Round (white sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, artichoke, tomato, chopped garlic and spinach).
More than 25 pizzerias around the city will participate. Customers can pick up a Lexington Pizza Week 2018 Passport at any participating restaurant. The passport lists the pizzeria locations, names of the featured pizzas and descriptions of the pies. Customers who get at least three stamps on their passports quality for a chance to win the Ultimate Pizza Party, in which a participating pizzeria serves free pizza to the winner and 24 guests. Customers who collect more than 10 stamps have a chance to win free pizza for a year.
