A pair of Miami Heat hotshots are firing up the pizza oven at a new location of 800° Woodfired Kitchen in south Florida.
Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem, partners in a company called Forty-Three, will open their first venture this fall in Wade County, Eater.com reports. Chef/restaurateur Anthony Carron founded the restaurant, which has five locations in the Los Angeles area. The eatery emphasizes clean, local ingredients.
This isn’t Wade’s first plunge into the restaurant business. As ESPN reported, Mark Rodberg and Lauren Hollander sued Wade in 2010, claiming they lost millions of dollars after Wade walked away from a deal to open a chain of sports-themed restaurants bearing his name and likeness. At the time, Wade said his name and likeness were being used in ways that he did not approve of, which violated their original agreement.
That suit was eventually settled, with Rodberg and Hollander releasing a statement that read, “Mr. Wade is an honorable businessman, and we regret that our differences caused his strong character to come into question.”
