U.S. PIZZA TEAM WINS GOLD

Not since 2001, when Tony Gemignani won a world championship for the fifth time, has the U.S. Pizza Team been able to win a gold medal. Well, we can now proudly announce another world champion. This time is was Michael Shepherd running to the stage and standing on the top step to take the gold medal and a kiss from Miss Italy. Congratulations, not only to Michael, but to all the members of our 2004 team who did an outstanding job in terms of attitude and accomplishment. See story on page 96.

The World Competes for America’s Plate In November

Australia will crown their best gourmet pizza winner in Melbourne this September after a series of pizza contests has narrowed the field to a handful of pizza chefs. Winners from Australia, New Zealand and as many as four other countries will vie for the America’s Plate Gourmet Pizza Challenge on November 3rd, 2004, at PMQs New York Pizza Show. The highest-ranking member of the U.S. Culinary Pizza Team will be determined through a contest on November 2nd and the winner will represent America’s hopes for the America’s Plate. New York Pizza Show Debuts Gas Ovens at Javits

For the first time ever, visitors to a New York pizza show will be able to see pizza ovens demonstrated with real gas inside the Javits Center. PMQ and Infinity Group met with the Javits Center in March and worked out a plan plan allowing access to gas because of its importance to our exhibitors and attendees.
