The only thing Joan Jett might love as much as rock ‘n’ roll is vegan pizza. So the rock legend sent a letter on PETA’s behalf to the CEO of Domino’s ahead of her August 28 performance at the Pine Knob Music Theatre, which is near the company’s Michigan headquarters, urging it “turn up the volume and finally add dairy-free cheese” to its U.S. menus.

As far as Jett is concerned, the dairy industry has a “bad reputation” for tearing calves away from their mothers so that the milk meant to nourish them can be sold to humans instead. Vegan cheese leaves cow families in peace, and as Jett points out, Domino’s already serves it in the U.K., Australia, Germany, Spain and beyond.

“More and more folks are ditching dairy, as I did years ago, for their health, allergies, or because they don’t want to support cruelty,” Jett wrote to Russell Weiner. “Music brings people together, and so does pizza. Let’s make sure no one is left out when it’s time to share a pie.”

Jett’s letter is the latest move in PETA’s “Vegan Cheese, Please” campaign aimed at getting Domino’s to add vegan cheese options to its menu. So far, the group has dished up thousands of free slices of dairy-free pizza to Domino’s patrons nationwide, including yesterday at a University of Michigan event; placed billboards near two of the pizza chain’s locations; and bought stock in Domino’s in order to have a seat at the table with executives, attend annual meetings, and submit shareholder resolutions.

Here’s a look at Jett’s letter to Weiner:

Dear Mr. Weiner,

I’ve played a lot of shows in Michigan, and one thing that always hits the spot is a good slice of pizza. That’s why my friends at PETA and I are asking Domino’s, while I’m right here in your own backyard, to turn up the volume and finally add dairy-free cheese to your U.S. menu.

Pizza should be for everyone. More and more folks are ditching dairy, as I did years ago, for their health, allergies, or because they don’t want to support cruelty. Vegan cheese today is gooey, melty and every bit as satisfying. It deserves a place on Domino’s pizzas across America. Domino’s is already serving it in places like the UK, Australia, Germany, Spain and beyond. Other U.S. pizza chains have it too, and fans are eating it up. It’s time for Domino’s in the U.S. to catch up and give people what they’re asking for.

Music brings people together, and so does pizza. Let’s make sure no one is left out when it’s time to share a pie.

All the best,

Joan Jett
