As a winter storm dumped more than 20 inches of snow on upstate New York, city workers in Troy sprang into action—and hopped on their snow plows—to clear the streets. And Jimmy’s Pizzeria and Restaurant did not take their hard work for granted, extending an offer that reaped a bonanza of social media buzz.

As a show of gratitude, Jimmy’s announced on Facebook that it would provide free slices for Troy’s municipal employees last weekend.

“In support of our city workers that will be out all evening and night and tomorrow, we are offering free slices to our city workers today and tomorrow [Saturday and Sunday, January 19-20] that are out plowing,” the company said in the Facebook post. “Stop by for some slices and even fill up your coffee mugs on us as you keep the roads safe for all of us.”

The simple gesture generated overwhelmingly positive social media response. At a time when organic reach has become increasingly difficult for business pages on Facebook, Jimmy’s post earned more than 1,700 reactions, 2,005 shares and more than 190 comments.
