St. Louis-based chain Imo’s Pizza noticed that more and more of their customers were on their phones, from placing orders to just scrolling, and decided to combine two great things for the holidays: pizza and cellphones.

With a quick scan of the QR code on Imo’s new holiday-themed delivery boxes, customers will see a sparkling snow globe on their phone screens, complete with Santa Claus and his reindeer flying over the famous Gateway Arch.

“A lot of people are playing on their phones more and more these days [and] ordering on their phones (too),” said Nick Palank, marketing director for Imo’s. “This is a way for people to have fun. (After scanning), up pops a little snow globe of the Imo’s delivery guy and a house and a delivery car. It’s neat to see. You can zoom in, take pictures, and share with your friends and family.”

Below is a video by KSDK that shows the interactive snow globe.

The pizza chain worked with Drive Social Media to create this unique holiday pizza experience. “We took a QR code, QR technology, and placed it on the Imo’s box, so if you have an updated iPhone or Android you can scan that, and it will open up the augmented reality [display],” said Josh Sample, operating partner at Drive Social Media. “It has a hidden snow globe with Santa going over the Arch. Really gives you a fun, festive experience.”

Not bad for a pizza chain known for being “Square Beyond Compare!”
