According to a news report from in-forum.com, “Shane Balken bought the oldest building in town last year and started renovating it as a hobby.”

“I’ve always loved restoration projects, and I love a challenge,” the longtime Rothsay resident said while working on the 131-year-old building’s interior last month,” said the story. “Its exterior needed new siding, a roof and a paint job, Balken recalled. The building also needed an extra beam to support its upper floor and a new cement foundation to support it all, he said. Once Balken finishes restoring the cream-colored building on First Avenue Southwest, he will use it to take on another challenge. Come mid-September, Balken plans to open and manage Ole and Lena’s Pizzeria in the building, giving Rothsay’s 510 residents and visitors another spot to hang out.”
