The gourmet pizzas were delivered to the sailors who remained on duty during the first 24 hours that the ships were in port.  These sailors were responsible for ensuring that everything ran smoothly on board as the rest of the crew deployed to meet family and friends.  The pizzas were a small way of thanking the sailors for remaining on duty, welcoming them back to port and expressing gratitude for their service to our country.
