For National Pizza Month, DoorDash has crowned its own champions of local pizza—unveiling a list of the 50 most popular pizzerias across five iconic pizza states: California, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, and New York.
The delivery platform said it analyzed thousands of customer reviews and ratings from January through September 2025 to spotlight independent pizzerias earning top marks from their communities. Each restaurant on the list has fewer than 10 locations and more than 1,000 reviews.
“Pizza brings people together, from friends watching a game to kids celebrating a birthday,” said Ruth Isenstadt, Head of U.S. Restaurants at DoorDash. “Every region and chef puts their own spin on a classic, and that creativity is what makes it so special.”
DoorDash emphasized that the list celebrates small independents—the local operators whose businesses form the backbone of their communities. The company also reminded readers that pizza has been the “original delivery hero,” long before other to-go staples like burrito bowls and bubble tea.
Among the 50 honorees are standout independents like Triple Beam Pizza (Los Angeles), under executive chef Juan Robles (pictured above), the recent grand champion of the California Pizza Challenge, and Flour + Water Pizza Shop in San Francisco, featured on PMQ’s cover in the January-February 2024 issue; Robert’s Pizza & Dough Company in Chicago, another recent PMQ cover subject (April 2025); Fino Wood Fired Pizza Bar (Connecticut), famous for its hot honey slice; Greco’s Pizza (Michigan), a local favorite for BBQ chicken; and Joe’s Pizza (New York), the iconic slice shop that helped define the city’s pizza identity.
