Marco’s Pizza Names Don Vlcek, Vice President Purchasing; Former VP and President of Domino’s Pizza Distribution

Don Vlcek, a former vice president of Domino’s Pizza, a member of its executive team and president of Domino’s Pizza Distribution Corp., has been appointed vice president of purchasing for Marco’s Pizza, the rapidly growing home of Ah! Thentic Italian Pizza, founded in Toledo 28 years ago.

Jack Butorac, Jr., president of Marco’s Franchising, who acquired Marco’s from Italian native Pasquale “Pat” Giammarco, and has assembled a team of veteran franchise development and pizza experts to grow the company, announced the appointment.

Late last year, Butorac also tapped the ranks of Domino’s alumni when he named former Domino’s President Dave Black to the role of executive vice president.

Vlcek, a resident of Plymouth, MI, served with Domino’s Pizza from 1978-94 when the company grew from 168 to 5,600 units. During his tenure as president of Domino’s Distribution, annual sales for the pizza supply distribution arm of the company grew from $5M to $600M annually. He was involved in the design and implementation of Domino’s first computer system and his company implemented supplier survey systems and an Olympic program to feature employees executing work tasks in a competitive environment.

Vlcek is a graduate of the University of Michigan where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and also authored an award-winning book called “The Domino Effect.”

“We have established goals to be in 10 states by the end of 2007 and 500 units by 2010,” Butorac said. “To be successful, we need the systems and people in place to grow and Don is another valuable piece to that puzzle.”

Butorac has appointed a franchise development staff including Cam Cameron, vice president; Bryon Stephens, vice president; Dave Black, former president of Domino’s Pizza, and others with combined franchise development experience of over 200 years.

Marco’s Pizza currently has 155 units in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, Florida and Wisconsin.

Marco’s offers menu of custom made Ah! Thentic Italian Pizzas, fresh baked subs, chicken wings, salads and soft drinks with carryout and delivery and some sit down service.
