Gino’s East is honoring those who take us on thrilling journeys and know our deepest confessions, as the Chicago institution celebrates Cab Driver Appreciation Day on Thursday, June 14,” according to The Examiner.

Out-of-towners and newbies to Chicago may not know that the Gino’s East story began in 1966 when two taxi drivers and a friend, frustrated with rush hour traffic, decided to open a pizzeria just off Michigan Avenue and Superior Street in Chicago. The Original Gino’s East became an instant legend with locals, national celebrities and visitors from around the world.

From 2 – 4 p.m. at the Gino’s East restaurant at 633 N. Wells Street, taxi drivers can pull up and receive a complimentary six-inch deep dish cheese pizza, fresh out of Gino’s East’s famous cast iron skillets. Live action of the afternoon will be posted to Gino’s East Facebook page or follow the fun on Twitter at @GinosEast.”
