"Detroit Lions players wrapped thousands of the city’s children in warmth today, handing out 4,000 winter coats during a giveaway sponsored by a local pizza chain," according to the Detroit Free Press.
Happy’s Pizza paid for $75,000 in coats handed out during the fourth annual Greater Grace Temple for Happy’s Coats for Kids.
“I’m so glad someone took the time out to do this with the community: we need this,” said Charlene Jackson, 22, of Detroit, whose two daughters, Marchala Robinson, 5, and Janya Robinson, 4, both received new coats. Jackson, who has a vision impairment, uses a cane and works as a teacher’s aide at the girls’ school, said the support is invaluable to her family. “There are some parents that can’t afford a coat for their child. So I really appreciate it.”
