Noblesville, Indiana – Custom food producer Butterfield Foods announced today it has entered the vegan space by creating, producing and soon shipping vegan black bean chipotle patties all over the country for a national restaurant chain.

The vegan patties, the creation of Butterfield's Nick Granju–one of a handful of certified research chefs in the country — reflect the growing trend of vegan diets, which eliminate consumption of animal products.

"Most veggie patties you order in restaurants aren't vegan," says Frank Violi, president of Butterfield Foods. "Our veggie patties are 100% vegan, and we're finding that there's a real customer base for that."

Butterfield can create different forms of the product, with flavors matched to the customers' specifications. A longtime supporter of the Research Chefs Association, Butterfield Foods prides itself on rapid development of R&D prototypes, while preserving culinary integrity and providing great customer value.

The increasing demand for vegan products is not surprising, says Violi, who will be showcasing all of his product offerings May 18-21 in booth 617 at the National Restaurant Association show in Chicago.

"Vegan diets are nothing new, but what we're hearing from our customers is that diners are really seeing the health benefits of vegan eating," he says. "Health and wellness concerns are receiving more attention than ever before."

Recently, celebrities such as former talk show host Rosie O'Donnell and former president Bill Clinton have gone public about their appreciation for the vegan diet. O'Donnell, who suffered a heart attack last year, was inspired to give vegan a try when Clinton claimed to have lost 20 pounds after adopting a vegan diet.
