The food industry analytics firm CHD Expert says pizzas popularity in the U.S. has never been stronger. The firm adds that independent pizzerias currently make up 13% of total non-chain restaurants.

EINnews.com reports the Chicago-based data supplier says that “Pizzeria” and “Italian—Pizza & Pasta” Menu Types combined make up 14% of the total US restaurant landscape. CHD Expert’s data shows there are more than 68,000 restaurants with the Pizzeria menu type in the US, accounting for 10% of the total US restaurant landscape. It is the second most popular menu type in the U.S. behind Varied Menu.
