One of the oldest pizzerias in the United States, Pepe’s Pizza of New Haven, named as tenant for Project Horizon

UNCASVILLE, CT (July 31, 2008) – During a press conference today, Mohegan Sun named one of the first tenants of the Earth portion of the multi-million dollar Project Horizon expansion: Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana of New Haven, Connecticut, one of the oldest pizzerias in the United States.

Known locally as “Pepe’s Pizza of New Haven,” the pizzeria currently has three locations within Connecticut: New Haven, Fairfield and Manchester, and will be opening its fourth at Mohegan Sun in the summer of 2010.

“We are happy to have the legendary Pepe’s Pizza of New Haven at Mohegan Sun,” said Mitchell Etess, President and CEO of Mohegan Sun. “Project Horizon will offer our guests familiar regional and national brands and there is no other pizzieria in the state of Connecticut more recognizable than Pepe’s.”

Design plans are currently underway to determine the exact layout of the 3,800 square-foot dine-in and take-out eatery that will seat approximately 110 and be located in the eastern half of what is currently known as the Earth Food Court located within Casino of the Earth.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with one of the best names in the industry,” said Francis Rosselli, one of Frank Pepe’s grandchildren. “What makes this moment even more special is knowing that we will open this new restaurant 85 years after the original opening in 1925,” said Gary Bimonte, another one of Frank Pepe’s grandchildren. “My grandfather would be extremely proud of this historic moment.”
