No pizzeria in the U.S. has made better pizza than Una Pizza Napoletana, owned by Anthony Mangieri, in the past five years. That’s according to the latest best-pizzeria ranking from 50 Top Pizza, at least.
Admittedly, 50 Top Pizza, a prestigious, Italy-based guide to the world’s pizza scene, has a certain bias toward the Neapolitan style—you won’t often find deep dish pies or Detroit squares on its annual lists. But Mangieri’s perch in the No. 1 spot, solidified again in 2026, speaks volumes about his uncompromising, near-monkish dedication to his craft. He makes every pizza himself, and if he’s not there, Una Pizza Napoletana simply doesn’t open for business that day.
50 Top Pizza announced the latest ranking in a ceremony held yesterday in New York City.
The New York City-based Una Pizza Napoletana has held the No. 1 spot since the inception of 50 Top Pizza’s guide to the USA in 2022. (It was also named best in the world last year.) Mind you, Tony Gemignani’s San Francisco shop, Tony’s Pizza Napoletana, has come very close, and Dan Richer’s Razza Pizza Artigianale in Jersey City is usually a high-ranking contender. But Mangieri, it seems, cannot be toppled, and the latest USA honor likely puts him in the running, once again, for No. 1 in the world when 50 Top Pizza returns with that list in September.
Tony’s Pizza Napoletana tied for No. 2 with Pizzeria Sei in Los Angeles this year, while Razza finished at No. 3. Truly Pizza, a relatively new concept in Dana Point, California, founded by John Arena, Chris Decker, Michael Vackneen and Donna Baldwin in 2023, climbed up in the 50 Top Pizza ranking this year, from No. 9 to No. 4, with fifth place going to Francesco Martucci in Miami. Truly Pizza also won the Pizza of the Year award for its Umami Mushroom pie.
New York City’s Don Antonio, led by owner Giorgia Caporuscio (pictured above), claimed sixth place. It’s famed for its signature pizza fritta, a lightly deep-fried pie that elevates the original Neapolitan street food recipe. Caporuscio is also an ambassador for Women in Pizza, a movement that advocates for greater representation for women in the pizza community, and is the only woman pizza maker in the 2025 Michelin Guide selection.

Close on Don Antonio’s heels is Jay’s Artisan Pizza (Kenmore, New York) in the seventh spot, and a tie for No. 8 between Robert Garvey and Dana Hokin’s Robert’s Pizza & Dough Co. in Chicago and NYC’s Ribalta, owned by Pasquale Cozzolino.
Perhaps the most interesting development is the meteoric rise of Leña Pizza & Bagels in Cleveland, Mississippi (pictured below), which leapt from No. 38 last year to No. 9 in 2026. Not only that, Leña co-owner and sole pizzaiola Marisol Doyle, who was featured on PMQ Pizza’s cover in November 2023, was honored as this year’s Pizza Maker of the Year—Ferrarelle Award by 50 Top Pizza’s experts. One of the pizza community’s great Cinderella stories, Leña, an exemplary Neapolitan-style restaurant in a small Deep South town previously dominated by chains, was also named one of the “Best Pizza Places in the United States” by the New York Times in 2024.
Rounding out the top 10: Ken’s Artisan Pizza, a Portland mainstay founded by the now-retired pizza guru and baking legend Ken Forkish. Vince Krone and operator Peter Kost run the restaurant today and have carried Forkish’s legacy forward admirably.
50 Top Pizza also handed out a bounty of special awards for 2026, including:

- Best Fried Food 2026 – Il Fritturista – Oleificio Zucchi Award: Pizza Secret, New York
- Best Dessert List 2026 – Latteria San Salvatore Award: Valentina’s, Madison, Alabama
- Made in Italy 2026 – Salumi Coati Award: Partenope Ristorante, Dallas
- Best Cocktail List 2026 – Sei Bellissimi Award: Audace, New York
- Best Pasta Proposal 2026 – Pastificio Di Martino Award: Pasquale’s Pizza Napoletana, Wakefield, R.I.
