Anthony Mangieri just won’t budge. Once again Una Pizza Napoletana, his acclaimed independent Neapolitan-style restaurant in New York, is numero uno in 50 Top Pizza’s list of the best pizzerias in the U.S.
This year’s No. 1 ranking marks the third in a row for Una Pizza Napoletana. And 50 Top Pizza, an Italian guide to the world’s best pizza restaurants, also named it the best in the world last year.
Many familiar faces resurfaced in 2025, notably Tony Gemignani for Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco as well as Pizza Rock in Las Vegas—that’s a remarkable two entries owned by the same person. And Robert’s Pizza and Dough Co. in Chicago, owned by Robert Garvey and Dana Hokin and featured on PMQ Pizza’s April 2025 cover, made a leap from No. 10 last year to No. 6.

There were some noteworthy newcomers, too. Striking a triumphant blow for small-town pizzerias in the rural Deep South—and around the world, for that matter—Leña, located in Cleveland, Mississippi, debuted on 50 Top Pizza’s list at No. 38. Founded by Marisol and Rory Doyle in early 2023, Leña has quickly grown into one of the country’s most acclaimed pizza restaurants. Last year The New York Times named it one of the 22 Best Pizza Shops in the U.S., and the pizzeria has been recognized by the Milan, Italy-based Best Pizza Awards two years in a row.
Leña also received 50 Top Pizza’s “One to Watch” award, which is sponsored by Orlando Food Sales.
Other newcomers to the ranking include veteran pizzaiolo Joe Farruggio’s A Modo Mio (No. 32) in Arlington, Virginia; the stylish, upscale Audace in New York (No. 37); and the Asian-influenced Hapa Pizza in Beaverton, Oregon (No. 47), owned by Aaron and Natalie Truong.
John Arena, the legendary co-founder of Metro Pizza in Las Vegas and Truly Pizza in Dana Point, California, received the special Icon 2025 Award. 50 Top Pizza described Arena as “a person who has dedicated his life to artisanal pizza.” His many admirers would likely add that Arena, who inspired the creation of the John Arena Foundation, is one of the pizza community’s most influential figures and a mentor to countless chefs and pizzeria operators for decades.
Truly Pizza, which cracked this year’s top 10 ranking at No. 9, was also honored with 50 Top Pizza’s Performance of the Year—Robo Award.
William Joo of L.A.’s Pizzeria Sei (ranked No. 2) was named Pizza Maker of the Year, while L’Industrie received Pizza of the Year recognition for its New Yorker pie.
“Year after year we are noticing changes in pizzerias across the United States that have led to increasingly interesting ideas and that are good for the entire industry,” said 50 Top Pizza curators Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro and Albert Sapere in a statement. “We would also like to mention that the different styles of pizza that our inspectors get to enjoy are also getting more numerous. This is a good thing because it creates a wider variety for the customer.”
