Questions, Questions, Questions
Dear PMQ,
It was very cool to be (featured) by such a big magazine in our industry…it was like being in the Forbes of pizza. We are grateful for our regular customers and could not be as successful as we are, or recognized enough to be on the cover of PMQ without them. Thanks!
Rolf Wilken, Eureka Pizza

Thanks for the kind comments Rolf. It has been great to watch your growth from when we featured you in the very first issue of Pizza Marketing Quarterly to now…10 years later. If you would like to learn more about Eureka Pizza, read Rolf’s story from 1997 at www.pmq.com/eureka.shtml and from 2007 at www.pmq.com/mag/20070102/article.php?story=eureka.

Feet on the Street
Dear PMQ,
Recently Domino’s Pizza held a “Feet on the Street” campaign to send out 2,500 doorhangers per store in the U.S. The top 10 stores in the region win awards based on sales increase swing. My store in Lisle, Illinois, raised sales by 54% giving us a 66% swing. No store came close to us in my 16-unit franchise. We used a lot of different tricks to increase return. I would be happy to share them with your magazine if given the opportunity. My store also just received National Store of the Week honors for Domino’s Pizza. Awards were based on store improvement and momentum with service, sales and team building. I met you briefly in Columbus at the Convention in 2003. At that time I was a 21-year-old pizzeria owner that was eager to learn. I have since been working my way to franchise a Domino’s Pizza. Next year, this dream will happen. I am still eager to learn every day. Pizza Magazine enables me to do so! P.S.: If there is ever an article on “Young Guns” in the pizza business I would love to share my experiences. MySpace is working great for my store, giving me direct contact with the teen to 30-year-old market. You can see what I have online at www.myspace.com/lisledominos

First, congratulations on receiving National Store of the Week honors and on the success of your doorhanger promotion. Send us a sample of the doorhangers so we can share this with our readers. Also, the MySpace idea is very cool…that is a promotional tool I never thought about and an idea others can use to reach this niche market. Keep up the great work.

The Harlem Globetrotters
Dear PMQ,
When I worked for a local convenience store/pizzeria chain, the Harlem Globetrotters were in town and we had Otis Key (#12) come in for a PR thing. While he was there, I thought it would be cool to get a picture taken with him spinning a basketball while I was spinning a pizza. I remember seeing a special on the Food Network and they referred to acrobats as the Globetrotters of pizza. I am passionate about this industry and would love more than anything to help lead the U.S. team to victory in Italy. With this said, what are the chances of this getting worked into the next issue of PMQ?
Jason D.

You did it Jason…here is your picture in PMQ’s Pizza Magazine! The U.S. Pizza Team just got back from the 6th Annual Pizza Championships of Naples and did a great job of representing the U.S. and if you would like to become part of the 2008 team, join us in Orlando for PMQ’s Orlando Pizza Show. This is where you can try out for the USPT’s acrobatic squad. We hope to see you there, and good luck.
