The US Pizza Team Heads to Italy
By the time you get this, the 2007 US Pizza Team will be right in the middle of our trip to Naples, Rome and Pompeii. This year the team is competing at the International Pizza Championships of Naples, which takes place May 21st and 22nd , but prior to the competition, everyone traveling with the team will be taking tours of the Caputo flour factory, makers of the famous “00” pizza flour, tours of mozzarella factories, Pompeii, a day tour of Rome and a few of the oldest and most famous pizzerias in the world. Just because you aren’t on the team doesn’t mean you can’t come along with us. Anyone can travel to Italy on next year’s tour, or become a non-sponsored tour member. If traveling to Italy is something you would like to plan to do, visit www.pmq.com/travel or email caroline@pmq.com to stay informed on various travel opportunities with PMQ.
We would like to thank all of the 2007 U.S. Pizza Team sponsors for making this year’s team possible. This year’s Gold Sponsors includes: Bellissimo Foods, Bolla Winery, The California Milk Advisory Board, La Nova Wings, Revention, Paradise Tomato Kitchens. Our Silver Sponsors include: Bag Solutions, Fontanini Italian Meats & Sausages, Marsal and Sons Ovens, Pizza Equipment Supply, Roma Foods and Throw Dough. PMQ’s Italian Cookbook
If you are on and trying to maintain a diet, you probably won’t want to peruse pages 56 through 65 because once you see and read some of these mouthwatering recipes, you’ll probably break your diet. In this issue, you can find many great recipes submitted by award-winning chefs as well as some tried and proven recipes from various food companies. Rip a few out and take them into the kitchen and try out a new flavor or two. If there aren’t enough in the magazine to spark your culinary nature, be sure to visit PMQ’s Recipe Bank at www.pmq.com/recipe because we received so many new recipes, we couldn’t fit all of them into this issue. There are more than 50 new recipes in the Recipe Bank, so go check them out and discover your Focus on Italian.

Pizza Marketing Alliance Now Forming
Many times over the past couple of years the topic of creating a pizza marketing council has come up at PMQ. Just look at what the cheese, beef, and pork councils have done for their industries. Now it’s time we do a “Got Milk” type marketing strategy for the pizza industry. After talking with hundreds of enthusiastic pizza operators, food suppliers, national marketing boards and even a television producer or two, we think it is time to announce the National Pizza Marketing Alliance. The goal of this association will be to strategically and creatively organize our industry’s substantial power, charm and influence to create a higher and more positive level of pizza awareness among the consuming public. Please come to www.pizzamarketing.org to learn more on how you can help us make pizza even more popular than it is now.
