
Boulder Business Fights for Right to Sell Booze

BOULDER, Colo. – According to Rockymountainnews.com, “A month after a University Hill burger joint won a legal struggle over Boulder’s authority to limit liquor sales, another business is considering taking the same argument to court to win the right to sell booze.”
The report said, “Abo’s Pizza may follow the example set by neighboring Thunderbird Burgers, whose owner won a lawsuit in January that allowed him to sell alcohol until 2 a.m. Abo’s has hired Richard Lopez, the lawyer who represented Thunderbird.”
The article said, “Boulder’s Planning Board agreed in 2004 to allow Thunderbird Burgers to stay open until 2 a.m. only if its owners agreed to stop selling alcohol by 11 p.m.”
The article stated: “Thunderbird owner Brett Berger sued, arguing that only the state can regulate hours in which alcohol can be served. District Judge Gwyneth Whalen agreed.”
Pizzeria Raises $9,000 for Student Hit by Bus
According to an article from Philly.com, “A Bucks County pizza shop sold between 800 and 1,000 pizzas in its marathon sale to raise money for Ashley Zauflik, the Pennsbury High School junior critically injured when a school bus rolled over her this month.”
The pizzeria owner stated in the article, “We went through the dough so fast, it was hard to keep track of how many pizzas we made,” said Suzanne Matarese, who owns Original’s Pizza in Morrisville with her husband, Sal. They also went through more than 39 dozen rolls for sandwiches.
The report said, “They had planned to donate half the proceeds to a fund for the family, but that night, as they counted up the $12,000 in sales, they increased the portion to 75 percent. That $9,000, plus $2,500 that customers stuffed into a donation jar on the counter, will be presented to the Zaufliks.”
In the report, Matarese said, “The community was so wonderful. Some people waited two hours for their order, and there are more donations coming in.”

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – According to a report from Slive.com, “Roaches, mice, improper food storage and other unsanitary conditions in two Staten Island Pizza Hut restaurants have led the city Health Department to temporarily shut down the eateries.”
One victim was quoted in the article as saying, “I feel like I’ve eaten a lot of mouse doodoo,” according to grossed-out Jill Kaja, 25, as she and a friend pulled up last night to Pizza Hut at 2720 Hylan Blvd. to find the lights off and bright yellow Health Department stickers slapped on the restaurant’s two entry doors,” the report stated.
