When a record crowd of 15,000+ showed up at the Florida Restaurant/Orlando Pizza Show last month, the section containing PMQ’s Orlando Pizza Show
was not only bustling with plenty of old friends, but thousands of new faces, many of which had never been to a pizza specific trade show. Thank you, readers and advertisers. Thank you, exhibitors and contributors. And thanks to Reed Exhibitions for offering the 2nd and 3rd largest restaurant shows in the country as homes for PMQ’s Orlando and New York Pizza Shows.

Big Day Set For Tom’s Cruise
Some people call it the Pizza Cruise while others, like editor-in-chief Tom Boyles and Dough Doctor Tom Lehmann, are hearing it called Tom’s Cruise. After a one-year delay – because Hurricane Katrina caused the original port of departure – the time has finally come for the Pizza Cruise. Yeah, there will be sun, fun, casinos, wining and dining, but there will be opportunities to learn too. The Dough Doctor will take over the ship’s pizzeria to offer workshops, there will be pizza excursions for those who want to try out some Caribbean pizza and there will be the Summit on the Sea to discuss setting up a national pizza marketing council. We invite magazine editors (and yes, even you Tom), industry leaders, distributors, manufacturers and pizza operators to not only come along, but bring the family too. Time is running out to sign up for PMQ’s special rates. Visit www.pizzacruise.com for more information.
The National Pizza Institute
The evening before the Orlando Pizza Show kickoff, the PMQ staff and guests were invited to attend a reception at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management on the University of Central Florida’s Orlando campus. Dr. Christopher Muller, the foremost authority on pizza academics, and the Rosen College of Hospitality Management co-hosted the meeting. Discussions throughout the evening dealt with the formation of the National Pizza Institute, which will not only research and maintain statistical information for the pizza industry, it will provide the pizza industry with an accredited educational program, training for restaurants that may lack proper facilities and studies for those interested in opening their own pizzeria. We would like to thank all who attended and those who have expressed interest In becoming Involved with the formation of what Is sure to be the most valuable asset In our Industry. If you would like to learn more about how you can become Involved, contact Steve Green at 662-234-5481 x123.
