It’s the Great Pumpkin Spice Pizza, Charlie Brown!
Villa Italian Kitchen says it has achieved “peak pumpkin spice” with its new menu item, but the pizza is not the only one of of its kind.

It had to happen sooner or later—a restaurant chain recently rolled out a Pumpkin Spice Pizza.
The New Jersey chain started serving the new pies at about 230 locations last week. The dough is slathered with pumpkin pie filling, clove and cinnamon, then topped with whole-milk mozzarella cheese. After baking, the pie is topped with additional dollops of pumpkin pie filling.
Munchies.vice.com was not amused by the seasonal news, denouncing pumpkin spice pizza as “a collection of words that should never appear beside each other in a sentence.” The website quoted Villa Italian Kitchen spokesperson Brian Lowe as saying, “Pumpkin spice is undeniably the most popular flavor of fall. As such, we wanted to slice up our piece of the pie. We thought, what could be better than combining the popularity of pumpkin spice with pizza? So after a few R&D sessions, we landed on the perfect pumpkin spice pizza balance. It’s a magical place where all the deliciousness of pizza meets the flavors of pumpkin spice.”
The Villa Italian Kitchen pie is not the only one of its kind, however. PMQ blogger Milvian Prieto of NJ Pizza Girls recently spotlighted a Pumpkin Spice Pizza at Nunzio’s Kitchen in Sayreville, N.J. Along with a sweet pumpkin base, it’s topped with lightly fried zucchini, ricotta cheese and walnuts.
One thing’s for sure: the combination of pumpkin spice and pizza lit up the Internet, as media outlets ranging from Fortune and the Baltimore Sun to Huffington Post and Thrillist covered the new menu item.
“Have we reached peak pumpkin spice?” Lowe asked, rhetorically, in his Munchies interview. “You bet your nutmeg.”
