Chicago-Style Pizza Meets Yorkshire Pudding in Frankenstein Monster of a Pie (With Video)

Rub Smokehouse has been in the news for inventing this “cheese-filled batter bomb” with a sausage base.

Is it pudding, or is it pizza? Whatever you call it, it’s one of the many wonderfully weird items on the menu at Rub Smokehouse in Birmingham, England.

Is it pudding, or is it pizza? Rub Smokehouse & Bar in the United Kingdom has devised an international culinary mish-mash that’s making big headlines across the pond—a crazy culinary hybrid of an old-fashioned Yorkshire pudding and a Chicago-style pizza.

Called the Yorkshire Pudding Chicago Pot Pizza, it boasts a rich sausage-and-tomato ragu base and loads of cheese. Described by the Mirror Online as a “cheese-filled batter bomb … made up of a monstrous pudding base—one that might usually arrive with a gravy-drenched roast dinner—containing sausage meat, tomato sauce and lashings of cheese.” 

It’s also packed with 1,500 calories, but who’s counting?

“We’ve been looking for ideas for Yorkshire pudding dishes,” Rub Smokehouse co-founder Jason Rowe told the Mirror Online. “After creating the Yorkshire Pudding Burrito, which was the size of your arm, we were inspired by the Chicago pot pie pizza, which is cheese porn baked in a bowl—it seemed like a natural marriage. It’s so right, but so wrong.”

Rub Smokehouse is no stranger to bastardized versions of comfort-food favorites. It’s also home to the Lasagna Burrito, the Nacho Meats Cheese Fondue and the Nugzilla, a chicken nugget that’s the size of 85 ordinary nuggets from McDonald’s. Meanwhile, there’s the Pizza in a Burger in Two Pizzas, described as “a pepperoni pizza in a 9” burger, equivalent to 8 normal burgers, then sandwiched between two more pepperoni pizzas with burger sauce, pickles and lettuce.”
