Are more folks eating at home these days because of nasty presidential politics? That’s the opinion of several restaurant industry executives, including Greg Creed, CEO of Yum! Brands, Inc., the parent company of Pizza Hut. “It goes without saying that people are trying to decide who to choose and what the impact will be on the economy, and I think people are maybe just hunkering down a bit,” Creed told investors recently. Top execs at Wendy’s and Popeye’s have expressed similar concerns. But is it really Trump and Clinton’s fault, or are there even darker forces at work?

Use Your Website to Capture Customer Emails

When customers place online orders, you can capture 20% of their email addresses through the transaction. But what about those who visit your website to browse the menu but place their order by phone? You’re wasting an opportunity if you don’t offer those website visitors an opt-in button through which they can share their email address. As an enticement, offer a weekly drawing for a free pizza to everyone who shares his email with you.

“World’s Nicest Pizzeria” Raises Cash for Kids

When you bill your shop as the “world’s nicest pizzeria,” you’d better be ready to prove it. And Grecian Pizzeria, located in Spring Hill, Tennessee, always is. The pizzeria raised funds for the Tennessee Children’s Home this week, sharing 10 percent of all sales on Tuesday with the facility, which serves abused, neglected, abandoned or orphaned children. “I work really, really hard for them because I know the Children’s Home works really hard for the homeless kids,” co-owner Frank Georgalos said.
