SeafoodSource.com, the international online news source for seafood industry professionals, will host a webinar to address the dangers of mercury levels present in seafood. Speaker guests Nicholas Ralston, scientist at the University of North Dakota, and Linda Cornish, executive director of the Seafood Nutrition partnership will bring to light some of the myths surrounding mercury levels in seafood.

Scheduled to take place on Thursday October 30th, 2014, at 11:00am (EST), the free webinar, “Fighting the Mercury Myth: How to Reach your Customers through the Hysteria,” aims to point to the truth about the real dangers and lack thereof in commercially-available seafood.

Scientist Nicholas Ralston will discuss his peer-reviewed research, which debunks the notion that mercury contamination makes common species of seafood such as canned albacore and skipjack tuna unsafe to eat for children and pregnant women. Linda Cornish, of Seafood Nutrition Partnership, will offer advice to the webinar’s target audience of seafood importers, exporters, wholesalers and other dealers on how to get the message through tough resistance bolstered by years of inaccurate information.

“We’re excited to have both our speakers aboard,” said SeafoodSource.com Online Editor Sean Murphy, who will serve as moderator of the webinar. “Nick Ralston makes it pretty clear why basic seafood staples like canned tuna are perfectly safe to eat, despite the misinformation that seems to guide the public mindset. Linda Cornish has dedicated herself to partnering with the industry to educate the public about the benefits of seafood in a healthy diet. We can’t think of a better person to advise industry leaders on how to convey Ralston’s message to their customers.”

Attendees will hear Ralston and Cornish’s presentation, and have the opportunity to submit their questions during the hour-long free webinar. SeafoodSource.com Premium Members will be able to download the webinar on-demand after the webcast.
