As wildfires rage across southern California and many flee their homes and businesses, one brave pizza man has stayed put so he can feed the heroes who are fighting the fires.

Boston transplant Joe D’Amore, owner of the legendary D’Amore’s Famous Pizza chain with eight locations around the area, has been forced to shut down three of his stores in Malibu and Thousand Oaks due to mandatory evacuations. But according to the Boston Herald, D’Amore is still working every day at one Malibu restaurant, where he serves up free pies for firefighters, law enforcement officers and utility crews.

Even as clouds of smoke billow through the region, D’Amore arranged to bring in his restaurants’ food trucks and generators to power his ovens.

“As long as I can help people, I will stay here and feed them,” D’Amore told the Boston Herald. He said he had given away more than 100 pizzas to firefighters and officers as of Saturday afternoon.

D’Amore’s is a celebrity hotspot, attracting stars like Duane “The Rock” Johnson, Kylie and Kendall Jenner (pictured below), Ray Romano, and Lindsey Lohan, to name a few. His slices and clientele notwithstanding, D’Amore is also famous for shipping both the flour and water for his dough recipe from Italy. He also claims to serve the “healthiest retail pizza in America,” with each slice providing just six grams of fat. His hot dogs feature meats that are hormone-, steroid- and antibiotic-free.
