After a man-made fire swept through the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area in Colorado last summer, the popular Dog Island Campsite was left in ruins. So the outdoor lovers at Hot Tomato Pizzeria, located in Fruita, Colorado, teamed up recently with the Bestslope Coffee Company to help restore the site with a fundraiser called “Canyons Cool Down 2016: Ruffin’ It at the HT.”

Hot Tomato hosted the event on Sunday, July 24, to benefit the Colorado Canyons Association (CCA). For $15, customers got a slice of pizza, a beer or glass of wine and a Bestslope Coffee CO Cold Brew, while listening to the tunes of Ruby Horsethief and We Speak Imaginese. A portion of the event’s proceeds went toward CCA’s efforts to restore the campsite. Also participating in the cross-promotional fundraiser were Chow Down Pet Supply (the campsite is dog-friendly – hence the name, we assume) and the Roice-Hurst Humane Society.

According to WesternSlopeNow.com, hundreds of canyon aficionados turned out to show their support. “I think it’s great that we are able to do this,” Joe Newhof of the Colorado Canyons Association told the website. “Getting everyone involved is really great.”
