Super Bowl Sunday is one of the busiest days for pizzerias across the nation. You may already be taking preorders for the Big Game and lining up extra staff for online orders, phone calls and delivery runs this coming weekend.

The National Chicken Council reports that fans will eat 1.35 billion wings during Super Bowl weekend, an all-time high. That figure is up 1.5%, or 20 million wings, from 2017.

Sites such as Yahoo Sports are starting to provide lists of pizza and wing deals, and game watchers are inviting friends and dusting off their big screens.

In addition to pizza and wings, consumers will drink millions of gallons of beer on Super Bowl Sunday. If you need some pairing ideas, check out this comprehensive beer and pizza pairing list put together by Bottleneck Management.

Whatever type of promo you have planned, remember to steer clear of referring to the game or the teams by name in your advertising. Trademark lawyers warn that there's a potential for a lawsuit.

Here are a few promo tips to get you game-day ready:

1 Offer a discount for preordering game-day pizzas at least three days in advance. This will encourage planning ahead and help you schedule your staff.

2 Send one free pizza with every five pizzas ordered. Super Bowl is a party day, so a six-for-the-price-of-one special could help boost your ticket average.

3 Throw a game party at your pizzeria with all-you-can-eat pizza and wings for a set price. If you’ve got a big-screen TV and a bar (note the extra profits you’ll make here), you’ve got a recipe for success.

4 Your delivery drivers will be stretched to the limit on Super Bowl Sunday, so consider offering an incentive for customers to carry out their orders.
