When presidential candidates flock to Iowa to kick off the campaign season next year, they won’t have a problem finding a good slice. The pizza scene in Des Moines is so hot, visitors can even take a tour of the most popular spots.

Wow! Des Moines Pizza Tours launched Dec. 8, and next year’s dates will be Jan. 12-13, Feb. 23-24 and March 9-10, according to the Des Moines Register. The project is a partnership between Wow! Des Moines Tours and Cooking with Alessandra, a local company that offers cooking classes and food and wine tours of the area.

Eric Prosperi of Wow! Des Moines Tours and Alessandra Meschini lead the tours, which cover eateries like Scornavacca’s Ristorante, Noah’s Ark, Chuck’s Restaurant, RedRossa Neapolitan Pizza, Papa Keno’s and Gusto Pizza Co. The tour directors use the opportunity to teach their customers about the history of the restaurants’ neighborhoods while dropping in to sample the city’s best pies.

Other food tours in the works will cover chocolate, tenderloin sandwiches and tacos, Prosperi told the Register. Tickets are $70 per person.

“Pizza has been a part of my whole life,” Prosperi told the newspaper. “I remember going to Babe’s, Joe Corso’s and Barnie’s as a child … and I love the quality and variety of pizza we have in Des Moines today. There is a lot to appreciate about pizza in Des Moines.”
